Have additional questions about your pain colon or rectal discomfort? Looking for local treatment to help mitigate pain? We are here for you.
The Colon, also know as the large bowel, is the last section of bowel your food you eat travels before a bowel movement. Issues that can effect the colon include Inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, colorectal cancer, colorectal polyp, and diverticulitis. These problems can cause narrowing of the bowel, blockage, abscesses, bleeding, and fistulas.
If surgical intervention is necessary, our MD Anderson certified surgeons attempt to limit the pain and recovery of surgery using advance techniques including minimally invasive surgery and protocols including ERAS (Enhance Recovery After Surgery).
Minimally invasive colon surgery benefits include less scarring, earlier return of colon function, less pain, and shorter hospital stays. Minimally invasive intervention has these benefits without affecting the 5-year cancer survival rates when compared to an open procedure.
